Tampa Bay High School Football Combine Spotlight: Antonio Nelson, Jr.

This year marks the 10th Annual Tampa Bay High School Football Combine, presented by the Tampa Bay Sports Commission.  With so many exceptional student-athletes in attendance, we'd like to provide the opportunity to get to know the players a little before they hit the field at this year's combine.

Q: "What do you think distinguishes you from every other player in the nation?"

A: "My passion and IQ for the game of football and also my ability to play whatever position."

Q: "What do you hope to gain out of your participation in the Tampa Bay High School Football Combine?"

A: "More knowledge of my position, speed, and just to get better as a whole player."

Q: "What are your strengths?  What do you need to improve on?"

A: "My strengths are my hands, speed, and good ball skills.  My ball skills and getting off of a jam could use a little help."

Q: "What extracurricular or community involvement activities do you participate in?  What are your hobbies outside of football?"

A: "I also play soccer to help with my speed and I do track and field.  I run the 100m dash at an 11.65, I run the 200m dash at a 22.76.  I also do the 4x400m dash and the 4x100m dash."

Q: "Which player, if any, do you model your game after or often get compared to by your teammates on the field?"

A: "I would model myself after Larry Fitzgerald, but a little faster."

Q: "How have you evolved over the years as a player?"

A: "As a player I evolved by getting bigger, smarter, faster, better hands, and more mature."

Q: "What is your proudest moment in football?"

A: "My proudest moment of football is just being able to play the game I love every day I'm alive."

Q: "What is your proudest moment off the field?"

A: "My most proudest moment off the field is getting excited when I know my grades are good and I don't have to worry about a coach telling a scout that my grades are 'iffy' or I need help."

Q: "What celebrity would play you in the movie version of your life and why?"

A: "My dad.  I choose him because I'm just a replica of him."

Q: "What TV show marathon will keep you on the couch all day?"

A: "1000 Ways to Die or ESPN.  Maybe even shows on the cooking channel and Untold Stories of the ER and Spongebob."

Q: "Who/what has been the biggest influence on football in your life?  How so?"

A: "My dad, because I think about how he made it to college but was stopped short of the pro's over something he can control but chose not to leave it alone, so that influences me to not do what he did when I get to college."

Q: "What is your favorite movie?"

A: "Friday and Next Friday"

Q: "Who is your favorite NFL team?"

A: "The New Orleans Saints!!!"

Q: "What is your favorite web site?"

A: "ESPN.com"

Q: "What is your favorite food?"

A: "Macaroni and cheese and banana pudding"

Q: "What college interest have you received?"

A: "Marymount University"

A: "7 catches, 65 rec. yards, 1 tackle, 3 crackbacks, 9-17 completions, 117 passing yards, 2 passing TDs, 5.2 avg. YAC."
